BOARD OF EDUCATION CANDIDATE FILING - APRIL 8, 2025 ELECTION
The Pierce City R-VI School District encourages qualified persons interested in running for a position on the school board to file as a candidate for the Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Municipal Election. The District will accept filings at the Superintendent’s Office located at 300 N. Myrtle Street, Pierce City, MO 65723. Filing will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10th, and continue during the District’s regular business hours, which are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The last day to file is on Tuesday, December 31st from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The names of qualified candidates shall be placed on the ballot in order of filing, except that for candidates who file a declaration of candidacy prior to 5:00 p.m. on the first day of filing, the District shall determine by random drawing the order in which such candidates' names shall appear on the ballot. Each candidate filing on the first day shall draw a number at random at the time of filing. The District shall record the number drawn with the candidate's declaration of candidacy. The names of candidates filing on the first day of filing shall be listed in ascending order of the numbers so drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on a later date.
Filing will not occur on days that the District Office is closed for inclement weather and holidays when Central Office is closed which are as follows:

There are two (2) three-year term Board Member positions available.
Qualifications for School Board Members are:
A U.S. citizen.
A resident taxpayer of a district
A resident of Missouri for at least one year.
At least 24 years old.
Candidates must also be current on state and local taxes; have not been found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under Missouri or federal law; are not registered or required to register as a sex offender; and have filed required campaign documents for all previous campaigns, if any.
The Board of Education usually meets the fourth Wednesday of every month with open session beginning at 6:30 PM and closed session starting before the open session at 6:00 PM. All meetings are open to the public. In certain circumstances, Missouri law permits the Board to go into a closed session. Circumstances that may be included are personnel issues, including conferences with employees and employee complaints, security matters, student discipline, or to consult with attorneys regarding pending litigation, real estate property acquisition, etc.

In accordance with the Sunshine Law, Pierce City Schools may charge up to 10 cents per page for standard copies and a reasonable fee for the time necessary to search for and copy public records. A response, including the estimated cost, will be provided no later than the end of the third business day after the request was received. Once the fee is paid by the requestor, the documents will be retrieved, copied and provided.
